Saint Joseph Symphony

The Saint Joseph Symphony has been part of the community for 100 years, and as we begin a new century of playing live music at the historic Missouri Theater downtown, we want you to be a part of it. Now, you may be saying to yourself, “St. Joe has its own symphony?” Indeed we do. We are a 60-piece professional symphony orchestra, performing five major concerts each year, as well as many smaller performances and educational outreach events for children.

One of the most exciting things happening this season will be the auditioning of candidates to become our new conductor. For many years, the orchestra has been led by a professional conductor who also serves as a member of the music faculty at

. This year we have three finalists for the conductor position, each of whom will have the opportunity to conduct an entire concert, so you’ll be able to see them in action and meet them in person after the show. (Full story)

On August 11, 2002 the Consolver family lost their 24 year old son Ryan, to a tragic motorcycle accident. This Christian family could not imagine how the God they knew and loved could take this young boy so early in his life.

Several months went by. Mom went to counseling, prayed and joined a support group for parents of lost children. Dad withdrew and could barely talk about it. Together they knew somehow, someway, they had to pull out of this depression and go on with their lives as Ryan would want them to.

Ryan’s dad is in the automotive business, loves old cars and Harley’s and is well experienced in the art of bodywork. Mom is a planner and leader, involved in numerous clubs and activities. They put their expertise together and came up with an idea that would remember Ryan on his birthday, and make a huge impact in not just their own lives but the lives of many others. (Full story)

 St. Joseph, Mo. – April 25, 2008 –

Summer is a great time for tanning, complaining about the heat, dreaming about vacations, swimming and outdoor fun. But did you know it is also the perfect time to get in touch with your inner artist or inner writer? Your inner musician might just appreciate the opportunity to be unleashed too.

This summer, Missouri Western State University’s Center for Community Arts is offering adults and kids new and unique opportunities to get in touch with their creative sides.

“We are really excited to be offering new classes for both children and adults in the community. We have some really fun and enriching opportunities that will fit a wide variety of interests,” said Community Arts Director Martha Greer.

Classes for adults include Drawing, Poetry and Short Story Writing, Paper Engineering, Soft Doll Sculpture, Interior Design, Swing Dance and Salsa Dance. (Full story)
