In a time when flesh tearing zombies have plagued the silver screen and the classic bloodsucking vampires have been laid back to rest, few directors have taken the bold move to reinvent the seemingly lost gothic-horror genre made famous by Bram Stoker. Along with the locally shot Bonnie and Clyde Versus Dracula, another notable vampire flick released this week, and flocking straight to a video store near you, is P.J. Pesce’s Lost Boys: The Tribe, the long overdue sequel to 1987’s cult classic The Lost Boys. With a plot line near identical to its predecessor, The Tribe places brother and sister, Chris and Nicole Emerson (Tad Hilgenbrink and Autumn Reese) with an estranged Aunt in vampire inhabited Luna Bay, California. When Nicole falls victim to the charm of the head vampire/surf pro Shane, played by Kiefer Sutherland’s younger brother Angus, Chris takes it into his own hands to protect his kid sister at all costs. Of course, one man can’t take on a tribe of vampires alone, so he seeks the service from everyone’s favorite Frog. Corey Feldman reprises his role as Edgar Frog, “surfboard shaper and vampire hunter,” one half of the Frog duo that brought peace to

Santa Carla, California in the late ‘80s. This time, Edgar (not Eddie), returns as an ordained minister with a trailer full of garlic and a truckload of one-liners with only one question on his mind: “Who ordered the steak?” Feldman as a veteran slayer, along with a cast of all new vampires and fresh blood (and a couple notable cameos), brings a new feel to an old classic that fans have been waiting for with modern technology and up to date special effects. Granted, you’re watching a straight-to-video, B-movie that was spawned from a 1980s cult hit, but don’t let all of that have any influence on your decision whether or not to skip over and rent something else. The Tribe is simply the same fun vampire flick you grew to love years ago with enhanced blood and gore and a remixed track of the famed Lost Boys theme, “Cry Little Sister.” Whether you’re an old fan or looking for a new guilty pleasure, Lost Boys: The Tribe brings it all to the table. Comedy, terror, blood and guts…whatever you want, this one will keep you entertained clear through any Easter Eggs through the credits.
