To recap, we are conducting our first charity promotion. We asked for
nominations of deserving local charities and they have continued to come
in; there are a number of very deserving candidates. We have put
together a committee of civic minded individuals to help us sort through
them and choose our three finalists, which will be announced in our March
20th issue. Then beginning on that date and running through the end of
April, our readers will be able to email us their vote for who should
get the money. (One vote per email address please.)

Also on that date, donations will be accepted at any Commerce Bank
location either drive-up or walk-in. They have generously offered to open a
“deposit only” account for Joe Gives A Buck and we have invited all
other local banks to participate as well. We will print a list of
participating locations in the March 20th issue for your convenience.

As for the donation part, our stated goal is $1 from every person in
town. That’s it. If you are in position to do more, fabulous, but a buck
a Joe is what we’re looking for. We don’t really know what to expect.
We may be lucky to get $300. We could also get blown away. After the
response to our Joe of the Year promotion, I’ll never underestimate our
readers again!

The final total will be counted by the banks, and cashier’s checks will
be written to the three finalists based on the voting. The split will
be 70%, 20%, 10%.

So, be looking for the finalists and the participating bank locations
in the next issue, and why not dig up a buck for a good cause?
